Take this Cup, 2024

Through the mode of an abstract figurative landscape, I visually process the labor and birth of my son and seek to add to the collective tapestry that weaves birth and death together, connecting generation to generation. In a narrative fashion, the work notes key stations of the labor through the positions I take in body and in mind over the course of a week, encompassing the labor, birth, and immediate postpartum time. From the harrowing contractions to the triumphant birth of my child and the days that followed, I flesh out a dramatic retelling of how this labor manifested in my body and refined my soul for the ongoing journey of mothering this new child.
